Faster and more efficient diagnostics of breast cancer with AI?
UK-based company Digistain has just passed clinical trials and opened their way to market with personalised cancer treatment recommendations. They created a cost-effective test which uses machine learning to rapidly analyse a patient’s biopsy. It has been validated in multiple hospitals in the UK and is already adopted by other institutions in India for further testing.
Why do we think it’s important? AI-based tools like this one can prove to be fast and effective and, as a result, allow for early cancer detection. This may decrease the number of patients that have to undergo potentially harmful treatments like chemotherapy. Moreover, they can be adopted in the countries where there is a shortage of specialists and further democratise high-quality healthcare all over the world!

More BigTech giants invest in Brain Computer Interfaces
US-based company Synchron has been backed by Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, together with other companies, with a 75 million USD investment round for clinical trials and further tests. The company has already implanted their interface in a human patient and showed the possibility to do it in a non-invasive way through one of the veins. They also outrun Elon Musk’s Neuralink, which is yet to test their interface on humans, planning to do that mid-2023.
Why do we think it’s important? Brain Computer Interfaces can massively increase the quality of life for people who are paralysed, allowing them to give commands to computers and smartphones. However, one of the main concerns regarding interfaces are related to privacy and security, which in our opinion needs to be addressed before releasing the technology to a larger market.
